The England squad suffered heartbreak in a nervy final against Spain last night

It will take Gareth Southgate "months" to determine his England future, GB News' man in Berlin said after last night's 2-1 loss against Spain.

The Three Lions were outplayed during the match in Berlin, with goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal winning the trophy for Luis de la Fuente's team.

Speaking after from Berlin, Jack Carson said: "Harry Kane speaking after the game saying that he loves Gareth Southgate and the team wanted to win it so badly for him, but of course, they just fell short.

"Southgate himself commented on his future as well the privilege and the opportunity to have got to another final.

"He can't help but realise how much this hurts right now. It's too early for him, he says to make a decision.

"He'd been questioned during the tournament as well, and he'd said at that time that he was too emotionally involved in this tournament.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

"It will take some months and take some weeks for Gareth Southgate to decide what's next for him."

Revealing how the squad suffered the heartbreaking loss, sports correspondent Paul Coyte said that they were "simply beaten by the better team."

Speaking to GB News, Coyte explained: "There were mistakes at the back and then two minutes from the end, Spain scored the winner.

"We look back at all the semi-finals and the few finals that there's been before and you think it was so unlucky and this happened and that happened.

England manager Gareth Southgate is set to now mull over his future, having indicated he'd leave his post as manager before the tournament if England failed to bring the trophy home.

"There is no argument. There's nothing anybody can say. Nobody can look back and go, oh, if only that had changed because we were beaten by the better side."

Despite England being unable to win Euro 2024, they've received a message from King Charles.

The King said: "Although victory may have eluded you this evening, nevertheless my wife and I join all my family in urging you and your support team to hold your heads high.

"All those who have participated in sporting activities at any level will know how utterly despairing such a result can feel when the prize was so near - and will join me in sending heartfelt sympathy, even as we congratulate Spain.

"But please know that your success in reaching the European Championship final is a really great achievement in itself, and one that brings with it the pride of a nation which will continue to roar for the Three Lions today – and in the many triumphs which I have no doubt lie ahead. Charles R"
