The 53-year-old will be hoping to mastermind a remarkable triumph tonight

Gareth Southgate has revealed he will decide on his England future within days of tonight's Euro 2024 final clash with Spain.

The 53-year-old has been in charge of the national side ever since 2016, when he replaced Sam Allardyce.

England have reached two finals, one semi-final and one quarter-final in the eight years since, establishing themselves as one of the best teams in world football in the process.

Southgate said before the tournament he would likely leave his post as manager if England are unsuccessful in their pursuit of glory.

And the Three Lions boss has now revealed he's set to decide on his future within days after tonight's clash in Berlin.

“The way my emotions have gone over the last five weeks, it would be ridiculous for me to think about anything beyond Sunday," he said.

“We’ve got time to make decisions and I won’t need weeks, but also I think I’ve earned the right to give myself a few days just to think things through.”

England have struggled at times during Euro 2024.

They were flat in the group stages, picking up just five points from a possible nine following games with Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia.

A moment of brilliance from Jude Bellingham saved them from defeat against Slovakia, while penalties were needed to dump out Switzerland.

On Thursday night, however, things finally seemed to click.

England produced their best display of the tournament so far, beating the Netherlands 2-1 after goals from Harry Kane and Ollie Watkins.

With the Three Lions starting to improve, fans are daring to dream once more.

And Southgate has called on supporters to get behind the side as they look to end 58 years of hurt.

“To all of the fans that travelled to the games, I know there have been some epic journeys, hours and hours of travel, so grateful for that support," he said.

“It’s meant so much to us in the stadium, and it’s so important for the players, so same again please for the final.

“To everybody at home, we’ve for a long time wanted to create memories for everybody.

“I think we’ve had a lot over the last seven, eight years. This tournament has thrown up more, the knockout phase in particular.

“I think we’ve shown amazing resilience, never say die spirit, composure under pressure at different moments.

“So, we’re looking forward to this challenge. We know we’ve got to be exceptional again against Spain. But we’re in here fighting and we hope to do you proud again.”

Southgate also says England will gain the respect of the football world if they manage to bring the trophy home.

"We have to get this trophy to get the respect of the rest of the football world," he said.

"I travelled to World Cups and European Championships watching as an observer (before becoming England manager) and on the highlights on the big screens before games we weren't in them. They only showed the finals and the big games.

"We had high expectations but they didn't match where we were performance-wise. We have now.
