The 53-year-old has overseen a dreadful season so far

Erik ten Hag's future at Manchester United is reportedly '50/50' following the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe recently purchased a 25 per cent stake in the club, having fended off competition from Sheikh Jassim.

He's eager to bring the glory days back to United, who have failed to win the Premier League or Champions League since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement a decade ago.

Ten Hag did well enough with United last term, guiding the club to third in the league table.

They also won the Carabao Cup, beating Newcastle 2-0 in the final following goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford.

However, United have alarmingly regressed this term and have endured a nightmare season so far.

The Red Devils have won just 10 of their 20 league matches to sit eighth in the table, behind Liverpool, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham and Brighton.

They were sent crashing out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle back in November.

And United exited Europe altogether last month after finishing bottom in a group also consisting of Bayern Munich, Galatasaray and Copenhagen.

Ratcliffe has a big job on his hands at United.

And French publication Le10 Sport say Ten Hag's job is '50/50' at the current moment in time.

INEOS, Ratcliffe's company, are yet to draw up a shortlist of potential replacements for the Dutchman.

However, with no final decision made, it's still possible they'll axe Ten Hag and seek a new appointment instead.

The publication also says INEOS have blocked any signings being made this month, unless they're loan deals.

United are believed to want a new striker to challenge Rasmus Hojlund for a starting berth.

Hojlund has netted just one Premier League goal since his huge move from Serie A side Atalanta back in the summer.

Thomas Muller and Eric Maxim Coupo-Moting have both been linked.

And so too has Stuttgart hitman Serhou Guirassy, who has netted 17 goals from just 14 Bundesliga appearances so far.

United have had to rely on loans in recent January transfer windows.

Back in 2020 they drafted in Odion Ighalo from Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.

The Nigeria international spent a year at United but bagged just five goals across all competitions.

Last January, the Red Devils recruited Wout Weghorst on a short-term deal to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo's departure.

Yet he also failed to impress, netting just two goals from 31 matches.

Meanwhile, speaking after United lost to Nottingham Forest last week, Gary Neville said Ten Hag needed his best players back from injury in order to save his job.

"Ten Hag needs his players back - Martinez, Maguire, Casemiro, (Rasmus) Hojlund, Luke Shaw... and he needs to somehow finish the season strongly," he said.

"But it's been a really up-and-down season.

"It's more down than up. Some of these performances are really, really poor. Well below anything that should be required at this level.

"Erik ten Hag will be under pressure, there's no doubt about that.

"They're obviously going to appoint those three roles - CEO, sporting director and head of recruitment - they'll all come in and the rest of them will go.

"The coach is the one that will be their biggest deliberation, it always is in a football club, because you don't sack a coach easily."
