The Football Association are looking for a replacement for the 53-year-old after he quit his job following the Three Lions' unsuccessful pursuit of Euro 2024 glory this summer

Three foreign managers are interested in becoming the next manager of England following Gareth Southgate's recent departure, according to reports.

Southgate walked away from his job in the wake of the Three Lions' failure to win Euro 2024 this summer, with the 53-year-old saying it was time for a 'new chapter'.

The FA are keen on the likes of Eddie Howe, Graham Potter and Lee Carsley as they make plans for the future.

According to The Sun, however, the country's governing body don't think the next manager has to necessarily be an Englishman.

The FA have gone down the foreign route twice before.

Sven-Goran Eriksson was appointed in 2000, with the Swede going on to spend six years in the job before walking away after the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Fabio Capello was given the keys to Wembley in 2008 but, after an underwhelming four-year stint, quit in 2012.

The report says Mauricio Pochettino is one boss from overseas interested in the gig.

Pochettino is currently available, having left Chelsea by mutual consent earlier this summer.

The Argentine has admirers within the FA and, given he's available, could be brought in with minimum fuss.

In addition to a positive year at Chelsea, Pochettino has impressed during roles with Southampton, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain over the years.

Thomas Tuchel is another man interested in taking over from Southgate.

He enjoyed his time managing in England, having guided Chelsea to Champions League glory at the expense of Manchester City in 2021.

Tuchel, like Pochettino, is currently available after leaving Bayern Munich back in May.

He was linked with Manchester United earlier this summer but is now spending his time relaxing with his family, having opted to take a brief break from management.

The third foreign boss keen on replacing Southgate is Joachim Low.

The 64-year-old won the World Cup with Germany in 2014 and is on the market, having not taken a job since leaving Die Mannschaft in 2021.

But whether England would go for Low or Tuchel, given they're German, remains to be seen.

Southgate, meanwhile, said it had been an 'honour' to take charge of the national side upon resigning earlier this month.

"As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England," he said.

"It has meant everything to me, and I have given it my all.

"But it’s time for change, and for a new chapter. Sunday’s final in Berlin against Spain was my final game as England manager.

"I joined the FA in 2011, determined to improve English football.

"In that time, including eight years as England men’s manager, I have been supported by some brilliant people who have my heartfelt thanks."
