Cristiano Ronaldo has blasted 'rats' who criticise him - and insists the world 'loves' him as he approaches the twilight years of his career.

The 39-year-old has scaled dizzying heights over the years and, just recently, scored his 901st career goal as Portugal beat Scotland 2-1 in their Nations League clash.


While Ronaldo is undeniably one of the best players to ever kick a ball, he can't go on forever.

There have been signs of the veteran waning in recent times, especially after he failed to score a single goal for Portugal at the European Championships in Germany.

Ronaldo has attracted criticism for continuing to play on, despite some of his magic fading with age.

However, speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, the Al-Nassr star has insisted he's unfazed by what the critics have to say.

"People always take the worst part, not always the good part," said the former Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Sportiing Lisbon star.

"But I'm not going to finish my career because two rats criticise me.

"The world loves me, the fans love me.

"This is my motivation to carry on playing football. People love me.

"No one is going to take my shine away because two people from TV that nobody knows criticise me."

Ronaldo recently admitted that he wants to end his career with a staggering 1,000 goals to his name.

The legend has now revealed he's targeting two or three more years in the sport - while also joking that he could potentially cry when he eventually hangs up his boots.

"I give everything, I have given my body for 25 years to football," he continued.

"I know that for two or three more years I can produce something good, but I after that I don't even want to think about that.

"You think I am going to cry [when I retire] with everything I have in my life? Well, maybe a little bit!"

Meanwhile, United star Alejandro Garnacho could find himself with some explaining to do.

Ronaldo recently criticised Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag, taking aim at the Dutchman for saying the club can't compete for the biggest and best titles on offer.

His quotes were shared by Fabrizio Romano on Instagram, with Garnacho then proceeding to like the post.

He swiftly removed it - but not before fans spotted his antics on the platform and shared screenshots on social media.

Ronaldo is expected to start when Al-Nassr face Al-Ahli Saudi on Friday night (7pm).

His team currently sit fifth in the table after picking up four points from their first two matches.
