Chelsea played host to Fulham in the first Premier League match of the weekend

Chelsea have won three Premier League games in a row for the first time this season.

Mauricio Pochettino's side beat Fulham 1-0 at Stamford Bridge but it wasn't an easy afternoon in west London.

Chelsea had beaten Crystal Palace and Luton in their last two league matches.

However, the 1-0 Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg loss to Middlesbrough in midweek piled more pressure on their head coach.

Cole Palmer

Chelsea dominated large parts of the first half but were unable to make the breakthrough.

They eventually did in the fourth minute of added time, when Cole Palmer converted his fifth penalty of the season.

Issa Diop tripped Raheem Sterling and Palmer did the rest from 12 yards.

Fulham were never out of the game and pushed for an equaliser in an entertaining second half.

But Chelsea held on for an important three points to move up to eighth in the table.

GB News looks at what he learned from the game at Stamford Bridge.

Two players to thank

Pochettino must be grateful for two players who played a big part in today's win.

Palmer has turned out to be one of the signings of the season.

The £45million-star was again instrumental in anything his side did.

Palmer played an incisive pass that drew Diop into fouling Sterling in the Fulham 18-yard box.

He was composed from the spot to score his ninth goal in all competitions this term.

Goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic was also an important cog for the Blues.

The Serbian, deputising for the injured Robert Sanchez, continues to impress between the sticks.

He wasn't called into action too much but pulled off a couple of key saves.

He kept out Harry Wilson from close range with a fine stop when the score was still 0-0.

The 24-year-old also saved a Raul Jimenez strike in the second half to keep Fulham at bay.

With Chelsea's struggles at the other end, Petrovic needs to be at his best and he was today.

Glaring problem still present

Chelsea are getting into good areas but they just cannot score the goals their possession deserves.

Armando Broja started up front but he was wasteful with a couple of opportunities he had.

The striker was replaced by Noni Madueke midway through the second half, with Palmer moving up top.

But Chelsea cannot just rely on Palmer to get them out of trouble.

Sterling was also far from his best, while Conor Gallagher is yet to score this season, although he did strike the post with a powerful effort.

Pochettino has previously said he would like to add goals to his squad in the January transfer window.

There is still time for Todd Boehly to make an addition or two if the finances allow.
