The Beeb have come under fire after users on social media flocked to their website

Users on social media have blasted the BBC after noticing they're yet to publish a story on Sutton United Women's team reportedly refusing to play following the signing of a transgender goalkeeper.

Blair Hamilton was recruited by the National League side after previous stints with the University of Aberdeen's men's side and Saltdean United Women.

The Sun say that Sutton United's Womens team refused to play on Saturday, with their fixture against Ebbsfleet United postponed without an explanation.

Yet there is no mention of the story on the BBC website, despite the Beeb having 'transgender' and 'women's football' sections.

Social media users have now blasted the Beeb for seemingly overlooking the controversy.

They were happy to make a big show of Lucy Clark after the transgender former referee was appointed as the manager of Sutton United's Women's side earlier in the year.

But with the controversy over Hamilton snubbed, users are far from happy.

"This story appears nowhere on the BBC Sport website, or the sub pages, football, or even women's football. Yet it's a huge story," fumed one user.

"The BBC has an entire section on transgender stories and an entire section on women's football," raged a second.

"They've devoted both to Lucy Clark and Sutton United in the past but now there's an actual story to tell ... nothing."

A third said: "This is why I cancelled my license."

A fourth said: "I had a look earlier this morning, and the story is nowhere...hats off to the women in the team for doing it."

And a fifth stated: "Well, as you know, BBC is only interested in drag stories."

In addition Sutton United's Women's team having a transgender goalkeeper, they also have a transgender manager.

Former referee Clark was appointed by the team back in January.

Clark previously said she supported the idea of a side having just transgender players. In 2022, she stated: "How good is that?"

The Sutton boss also said she was 'thick skinned' and ready to come with the criticism that would inevitably follow.

"I transitioned while I was a referee, and people don't like referees," she said.

"There is nothing anyone can say to me that I haven't heard or seen already from when I came out.

"There's already been a few of the Twitter warriors who have said their piece, I let them crack on. I've been known as the trans referee, and that's gone fine.

"Sometimes the words can get to you, but I'm thick skinned - I hit the block button and get on with it.

"I'm prepared to deal with it [abuse] should it happen, so we crack on. I'm not going to stop doing something I love because of who I am."
