The Gunners are now up to second in the Premier League table

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has reacted after his side's emphatic 5-0 Premier League win over Burnley on Saturday.

The Gunners went into the contest looking to close the gap on Liverpool at the top of the table following the Reds' 4-1 victory over Brentford earlier in the day.

And Arsenal produced a stunning performance full of attacking intent as they put Burnley to the sword.

Martin Odegaard struck the opener for the north London giants, with Bukayo Saka then netting either side of half time to extend his team's advantage.

And further goals from Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz made it a comfortable day at the office for Arteta's side.

The Spaniard spoke to the BBC after the game at Turf Moor and said he loved the attitude of his players.

He was particularly pleased to see stars tracking back at the end and praised the hunger they showed as they took all three points.

"We are really pleased because it is a difficult place to come and Burnley have been very competitive in the big games they have played so far this season," he said.

"Today we managed to break them down early in the game and made it look a little more comfortable but they are a team which digs in so much."

On his side's winning start to 2024, he added: "Individually and collectively, the purpose they are playing with, the form the players are in, even at 3-0 4-0 they want more.

"The way they track back at 96 minutes tells you how they are feeling. It's about maintaining momentum now.

"We are generating competition within the squad. They are a joy to work with, the way they train every day and apply themselves, and how they want to improve.

"They want more - that's the good thing."

Arsenal remain firmly in the mix for Premier League title glory after scoring five times without reply.

But Arteta wants his side to stay focused to ensure they're still keeping pace with Manchester City and Liverpool come the end of the campaign.

"At the moment all we can do is win our games and after our big two wins away from home we have a tough one in the Champions League at Porto," he said.

"I hope we can do it [win the title] because we are there but it is about consistency and you see the standards of the other teams.

"We want it, that's for sure."

Havertz also discussed the game as Arsenal won their fifth match in a row to continue their excellent start to the year.

And the Germany international thinks hard work is paying off as they look to secure a first league title since 2004. "We are in a good moment, we have won all of the games so far so it feels good," he said.

"Behind that was hard work and there are many hard games to come. We have to continue the hard work.

"We wanted to start the game very well and we lacked that at West Ham. We wanted to change that so the early goal was very important to us.

"We scored a few more good goals and we're happy with the win."

Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhil, meanwhile, admitted his side weren't good enough as they crashed to another difficult defeat.

"Overall it wasn't good enough at all. We can work as hard as we want but the quality wasn't there," he admitted.

"Some of the goals weren't acceptable. We've shown we can compete against some of the top teams and today it didn't feel like we did.

"The majority of the goals we could have done better.

"Switching off when they had a throw-in, getting out to the ball at the edge of the box, I could go through them all. It looked too easy for them."
