Arsenal and Liverpool played out a 2-2 thriller on Sunday afternoon at the Emirates

Mohamed Salah scored a late equaliser against Arsenal that saw Liverpool leave the Emirates with a point after an entertaining 2-2 draw.

The Gunners were already left reeling following the injury to Gabriel Magalhaes earlier in the contest, seeing Arsenal's injury list further grow.

The Gunners might feel aggrieved as the spoils were shared following a disappointing loss to Bournemouth in their last Premier League outing while losing Gabriel Magalhaes will be a huge loss.

The Brazil international was forced off with a knee injury and went straight down the tunnel minutes after into the second half.

Arsenal took the lead through Bukayo Saka early in the contest after roasting Andy Robertson for pace before a cheeky nutmeg.

And the finish was sumptuous too, lashing his effort past Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher before he had a chance to react.

Liverpool struck back through a corner as Virgil van Dijk nodded in Luis Diaz's knock-on.

But the Gunners fired ahead before half-time through a set-piece of their own when Declan Rice's incredible free-kick found summer signing Mikel Merino.

VAR did check for offside for some time, which took the sting out of what was an all-action first half.

With Gabriel forced off and William Saliba and Riccardo Calafiori already absent, Mikel Arteta has been forced to throw together a fresh defence.

That included Ben White and Jakub Kiwior at centre-back, Thomas Partey at right-back and Jurrien Timber at left-back, who was already a doubt going into the match.

And Salah took advantage after a stunning pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold released Darwin Nunez down the flank.

The Egypt international tucked in behind him, received his pass and tucked past David Raya to make it 2-2.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

With games against Newcastle, Inter Milan and Chelsea coming up soon, Arteta will be praying that Gabriel's diagnosis is not a lengthy one.

As for Liverpool, they missed the chance to return to the top of the Premier League after their Emirates draw left them a point behind Manchester City, who are the only unbeaten side left in the division.
