The Red Devils have been ruthless over the past few weeks

Alan Shearer believes Sir Alex Ferguson deserved more respect from INEOS after the Scot lost his role as an ambassador before Manchester United's decision to part ways with Erik ten Hag.

Ferguson was recently informed that he would be axed at Old Trafford, despite winning 13 Premier League titles for the club during his time as manager.

United have since proceeded to sack Erik ten Hag following a dreadful start to the new season that currently sees them sitting 14th in the Premier League table.

Shearer, speaking to Betfair, has opened up on Ferguson.

And he believes INEOS should have shown the 82-year-old more respect given everything he achieved for the club.

"One of the other parts of the new ownership’s poor start is the news around Sir Alex Ferguson," he said.

"I've no problem with them phasing Sir Alex Ferguson out if that’s what they want to do, but it was just the way it came out.

"He deserved more respect because of who he is and what he is to Manchester United.

"That is another part of the bigger picture; they certainly can do better going forward and they're going to have to."

Ten Hag has paid the price following a dreadful season so far.

But Shearer thinks both INEOS and the players must take responsibility, insisting the Dutchman isn't the only person to blame.

"INEOS are supposed to be the best in the business, but I don't think they've had a very good start to their time at Man United," he continued.

"When you consider that the ownership group were looked upon as the very best from all their different fields, but then with what went on in the summer, to then backing Ten Hag, giving him that new deal and signing new players, to where we are today, they've not had a good start at all.

"Having said that, they took over a club that was in a bit of a mess and it'll take time to get Man United to how they want it to be ran.

"The sacking, though, was inevitable because every single week no matter the result, it was always about whether Erik ten Hag will lose his job or when, he will lose it. It didn't help anyone.

"Everyone who watched the game at the weekend vs West Ham knows they could have been at least five or six up with the number of chances they missed.

"But, we all knew West Ham would come out in the second half and get chances.

Graham Potter, Gareth Southgate and Thomas Frank have all been linked with the fallen giants.

However, it's Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim who is the favourite to take over.

United are believed to be in advanced discussions with the 39-year-old, who could become their sixth permanent boss since Ferguson's retirement 11 years ago.
