The Dutchman is determined to win the trophy tonight

Michael van Gerwen has fired a warning shot at teenage sensation Luke Littler ahead of Friday's World Darts Championship final at Alexandra Palace.

The Dutch star has vowed to keep his 17-year-old opponent just "a sniff away" from claiming the prestigious title as they prepare to lock horns in north London.

"Luke's had a sniff [of the title]. I'm going to make sure he keeps by a sniff as well," Van Gerwen declared.

The showdown sees Littler enter as favourite, despite Van Gerwen's pursuit of a fourth world championship crown.

If Littler triumphs, he would become the youngest-ever World Championship winner, breaking Van Gerwen's record set in 2014 at age 24.

Van Gerwen believes the teenage star will eventually claim this record, but not without a fight on Friday night.

"He's got years! I think with his capability I will be surprised if he doesn't beat it," Van Gerwen said.

This marks Littler's second consecutive World Championship final, having lost to Luke Humphries last year.

Despite being considered the underdog, Van Gerwen remains defiant about his chances in the final.

"The moment people don't believe in me, that's the moment I fight and believe in my own ability. You keep digging," the Dutchman said.

Van Gerwen has proven doubters wrong throughout the 2025 tournament, too, which is something he's proud of as he looks to add to his impressive CV.

"With the bookies and fans I might be the underdog. People who know me maybe see things a bit differently," he added.

"No-one expected me to reach the final. People bet against me but I know I can prove them different."

Littler enters the final following a remarkable debut year on the professional circuit.

The teenage star has already claimed 10 titles, including the Premier League and Grand Slam of Darts.

Despite the magnitude of the occasion, Littler remains composed ahead of the final.

"It's the stuff of dreams, every kid, every adult, they want to pick up the trophy," Littler said.

"I can tell you now, I've got no pressure. I'm just going to enjoy it."

Both players acknowledge the challenge that lies ahead at Alexandra Palace.

"He's been tested, I've been tested, so I'm sure we'll both test each other," Littler continued.

"If we can get off to a quick start, winning the first set, I'll be happy, but if I don't then I'll come back on and hopefully switch things up and make it right."
