Kevin Pietersen has sparked fresh hostilities with Sir Alastair Cook after the former England captain questioned Jacob Bethell's decision to remain in India for the Indian Premier League.
Cook had suggested the young batsman should head back to Warwickshire for county cricket rather than "sitting on his a*** at the IPL not doing anything", given Bethell has yet to feature for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Pietersen fired back on X, declaring: "Alastair Cook has absolutely NO IDEA what it's like to be in the IPL.
"What it's like to always be around the best players in the world."

He added: "So his opinion on Jacob Bethell doesn't matter at all. Stay in India, Jacob."
The clash between the two former teammates has deep roots stretching back over a decade.
Pietersen was removed from the England setup following the 2013-14 Ashes series, during which Cook served as captain.

So his opinion on Jacob Bethell doesn't matter at all.
Stay in India, Jacob. I know, even though you're not playing, you're learning and…
The former right-hander has long maintained that Cook's lack of IPL involvement disqualifies him from commenting on the tournament's merits.
Pietersen never played under Cook's captaincy again after that Australian tour, and the pair have clashed publicly on numerous occasions since.
The latest disagreement centres on whether Bethell gains more from experiencing elite T20 cricket environments or accumulating actual match time in the County Championship with his home county.

Bethell has defended his choice to stay in India despite warming the bench for all six of RCB's matches so far.
Speaking to the Sky Cricket podcast, the 21-year-old said: "I firmly believe that this is the thing for me to be doing right now."
The young batsman, who is pocketing approximately £250,000 from his IPL contract, insisted he has improved since the World Cup simply through training alongside world-class cricketers.
"Every nets session, you've got hundreds of eyes on you, be it your coaches or the other players who are also looking at you, going, 'Is this guy good? Is he not?'" Bethell explained.
He emphasised that the constant scrutiny and exposure to elite standards has accelerated his development.
Bethell has enjoyed a remarkable rise over recent months, cementing his place in England's lineup across Test, one-day and T20 cricket.

His stunning 154 at number three during the Sydney Ashes Test in January should secure his spot for the opening Test of the summer against New Zealand at Lord's in June.
There has been speculation about Bethell potentially moving up to open if England decide to drop Zak Crawley, which could see Somerset's James Rew slot into the middle order.
However, Bethell made clear his preference: "I'd love to stay at three, if it's up to me. I really like the position."
He referenced Joe Root's temporary move to opener before the 2013 Ashes to accommodate Pietersen's return, indicating he would accept whatever role selectors require.
