Tennis icons past and present will play at a special charity event

Carlos Alcaraz and John McEnroe are poised to play at a special charity event with the proceeds going to Ukraine.

The US Open is planning on staging the event, just like they did last year.

With the war in Ukraine still going on, tennis players are ready to make a stand by helping to raise proceeds to go towards the effort.

Ukrainian star Elina Svitolina will be involved, with the 28-year-old regularly calling for the world to do whatever they can to help her country.

The event will be part of the US Open fan week and is scheduled to take place on August 23.

In addition to Alcaraz, McEnroe and Svitolina, the likes of Frances Tiafoe and Christopher Eubanks will also take part.

More players are set to be announced in the coming weeks.

Last year's effort in America was a roaring success, with over $2million for Ukraine.

Rafael Nadal, who has won 22 Grand Slam titles throughout his career, was among those to take part along with Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff.

Ukrainians such as Dayana Yastremska, Katarina Zavatska and Daria Snigur were present, too.

Alcaraz will go into this year's US Open hoping to reign supreme again, having won the men's title last year.

The Spaniard was too strong for Casper Ruud, winning 6-4, 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 to win a first major at the age of 19.

Then, earlier this month, Alcaraz rocked Novak Djokovic to claim a maiden Wimbledon title.

Though the 20-year-old was the No 1 seed for the tournament, Djokovic will still the strong favourite prior to the contest at the All-England Club.

Alcaraz lost the first set comprehensively but ended up battling his way to a sensational triumph on Centre Court.

After the match, Djokovic could have been forgiven for feeling sour - having missed out on the chance to draw level with Margaret Court on 24 Grand Slams.

But the Serb showed a touch of class by hailing his opponent instead.

"I didn't expect him to play so well this year on grass, but he's proven he's the best player in the world," stated the 36-year-old.

"I haven't played a player like him ever, to be honest.

"I think people have been talking in the past 12 months or so about his game consisting of certain elements from Roger, Rafa, and myself.

"I would agree with that.

"He's got basically the best of all three worlds. He's got this Spanish bull mentality, fighting spirit and incredible defence that we've seen with Rafa.

"I think he's got some nice sliding backhands, some similarities with my backhands.
