Carlos Alcaraz has been branded the 'King Midas of tennis' after his sensational Wimbledon final win over Novak Djokovic last month.

The 20-year-old secured a second Grand Slam title of his career at the All England Club, battling his way to a 1-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 3-6 6-4 win.

Alcaraz has been widely praised in the short time since, with many expecting the Spaniard to dominate the sport in the coming years.

And Italian star Lorenzo Musetti has now hailed the new Wimbledon champion, calling him the 'King Midas' of tennis.

"Today Alcaraz is the point of reference, the player to beat," said the 21-year-old.

"He is the King Midas of tennis: what he touches becomes gold.

"He is both a friend and a source of inspiration, beating him [at the Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo] is a source of pride but also a motivation in more to do it again."

While Musetti wants to learn from Alcaraz, he's also determined to stick with his own style as he looks to achieve a successful career.

"I would never change my tennis," continued the Italian.

"Maybe I need more time on the court than others, but I think it's more rewarding to stay true to yourself.

"And to the dreams we have in our drawer. US hard-courts season It's a long, tiring tour, but I have no points to defend."

He added: "Before my goal was to become a professional, now it is to reach the top of the ranking, win a Grand Slam.

"If in the end I fail to achieve all the goals I set for myself, it will mean that they were not within my reach."

Alcaraz and Musetti are now looking ahead to the upcoming US Open.

And the new Wimbledon champion will go into that tournament as the favourite given his recent success.

Alcaraz is the defending champion at Flushing Meadows, having beaten Casper Ruud in four sets to secure that major last year.

Djokovic is poised to return to America for the first time since 2021, however, in the wake of President Joe Biden's decision to lift restrictions on people who don't have the coronavirus vaccine.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz has posted an emotional message on social media after learning of scammers targeting his fans.

Individuals have been pretending to represent the Spaniard, asking for money in order to arrange a meeting with the tennis star.

And Alcaraz has now reacted to the scammers on social media, saying: “It has been brought to my attention that there are individuals who are falsely claiming to represent me and offer fans to meet with me if they pay.

"My team and I are not behind any of this soliciting, nor do I participate in meetings like this!
