The Gypsy King will be hoping to reign supreme when they meet on May 18

Frank Warren has claimed Tyson Fury is set to ease up on training ahead of his bout with Oleksandr Usyk.

The Gypsy King had been hoping to go up against the Ukrainian on February 17 in Saudi Arabia. However, after sustaining a serious cut to his eye in training, the showdown has now been pushed back.

Fury has since jetted back to the UK and Warren, speaking to the BBC, said he plans to spend more time with his family.

Furthermore, the 35-year-old will also ease up on training so he can hit his 'peak' nearer the time of their fight.

"He'll want to be with his family," said Warren.

"He can't continue training as such. He can tick over.

"He can get on the bike and keep well but when you're training for a fight you're training to reach your ultimate best, your peak.

"Now he has to wind down and set everything back in motion to get himself up and ready and make sure he's at his best for 18 May."

Some have questioned Fury's injury, however.

Critics have suggested the Briton has used the injury to ensure a delay because he's running scared.

Warren, though, has now blasted those critics and insists what they're saying is 'libellous and scandalous'.

"Tyson wants [the fight]. Some of the stuff that's been going out, I've never heard anything like it," Warren said.

"I don't understand how these people get living out of this game.

"Has Tyson got make-believe stiches in his eye? What they're saying is libellous and scandalous."

Fury has now jetted back to the UK and taken to social media.

The boxing star has revealed he's gone 'back to reality', with the 35-year-old having to go on the back to school runs.

“Back to reality today," he said.

“Back to the good old Morecambe Bay weather – rain, wind, cold.

“Back to the school runs, back to real life stuff.

“I can’t wait to get back into the training camp in Saudi and absolutely smash it. Come on Tuesday, bring it!”

Meanwhile, Carl Froch has once again questioned Fury and whether he's got what it takes to beat Usyk.

Froch has regularly fired verbal shots at the Gypsy King, with Fury's father John calling out the former boxing star for a fight as a result.

Yet the 46-year-old has doubled down on his stance and insists Fury is a shadow of the man he used to be.

“He’s on the slide, he’s passed his best," he said.

“I watched his fights from when we talked about the Deontay Wilder fight, when he was throwing 20-30 feints every round, he was bouncing on his toes, he was putting combinations together, he was moving a lot.

“Now he’s slowing down, he’s throwing less feints, he’s killing the clock and he’s been dropped four times in his last 70 rounds.

“When you look at statistics and facts they do not lie and I think Tyson Fury is on the slide.”
