British boxing fans are desperate to see Anthony Joshua face Tyson Fury

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has insisted a fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will happen in the near future.

Joshua and Fury have long avoided each other despite boxing fans desperate to see the two meet.

But plans are afoot to finally see the heavyweights clash in the ring while AJ's promoter Hearn has given some extra details.

Joshua first takes on Daniel Dubois for the IBF heavyweight title on September 21 at Wembley in an all-British clash.

That comes before Fury also faces his own huge fight, taking on Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch on December 21 after losing to the Ukraine star in May earlier this year.

Hearn, who promotes Joshua, has long clashed with Fury's promoter Frank Warren over a billed fight but Saudi Arabian boxing chief Turki Alalshikh could be crucial.

Speaking to BetFred, the Matchroom chief said: “Yes, everybody’s always talked about that fight and I believe it’ll happen whatever happens on the 21st of September and 21st of December.

"In an ideal world, they will win their respective fights and then you’ve got the biggest fight in the history of the sport.

"Our focus now is on September 21st and then it’s over to Tyson Fury to deliver the goods.”

Several high-profile boxing fights have taken place in Saudi Arabia over the last few years including Fury vs Usyk, Joshua vs Francis Ngannou and even Tommy Fury vs Jake Paul.

British fans might be disappointed to see a potential fight between Joshua and Fury not take place in England, which might still be the case.

However, with both boxers into the latter days of their careers and any chance at a fight taking place next year at the earliest, fans might just want to see the duo touch gloves no matter the venue.

Over the past few years, there has been plenty of talk from both sides over a potential bout with a war of words kicking off as a result.

Fury even sent AJ a contract in 2023 to finally meet but handed Joshua a timeline of a few days before the offer was pulled off the table.

Joshua refused to entertain the notion as he insisted his lawyers did not have time to ratify the conditions and a fight has been dead in the water ever since until now.

Alalshikh said: "I want to see Fury vs Joshua and the world wants to see Fury vs Joshua."
