The Lionesses will lock horns with Spain in Sunday's final

The BBC have been slammed by fans for their coverage of England's Women's World Cup win over Australia on Wednesday.

The Lionesses booked their place in the final of the competition following goals from Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo.

Sam Kerr scored a stunner for Australia but it would prove to be a mere consolation, with the Chelsea star unable to propel her side through.

The match was broadcasted on BBC One but the broadcaster has now been slammed after Robin Cowen's commentary was out of sync for Toone's goal.

One person said: "Have the BBC realised the commentary and sound is in front of the video?

Another stated: "Ruined the Toone goal. Annoying that the commentary is ahead of the visual. Goal was announced before we saw it!!!"

A third fan stated: "This commentary being ahead of the pictures is really annoying."

"Just me, or are the BBC pictures and commentary out of sync for the #WomensWorldCup semi final? Seems like the commentary is ahead of the pictures. #Lionessess," ranted a fourth.

And a fifth moaned: "This BBC commentary being out of sync is SO ANNOYING."

It is yet another mistake from the BBC at the tournament.

They were forced into apologising after a reporter asked Morocco captain Ghizlane Chebbak a question about whether there were any gay players in her side.

The 32-year-old looked taken aback.

And the BBC later apologised after a moderator had stepped in to assure Chebbak she didn't need to answer.

Commentator Jonathan Pearce also faced a backlash after he was heard mumbling during France's national anthem.

And the BBC made another error on Tuesday, showing pictures of England players when revealing the line-ups for Spain's win over Sweden.

Lionesses boss Sarina Wiegman, meanwhile, was delighted after guiding her side past Australia and into the final.

"We achieved the final! Unbelievable, it feels like we won the whole thing but we didn't," she said.

"An away game at this incredible stadium, it was a hard game but again, we found a way to win.

"We scored three goals, in this team there is ruthlessness, up front and defence.

"We really want to win. We stick together and we stick to the plan and it worked again."

On Australia, she continued: "They've done an incredible job, really grew into the tournament.

"They had some setbacks too and they had to win that last group stage game.

"They started playing better and Sam Kerr came back. We saw today why she's so important to the team. What a performance from them."

Russo scored England's third goal of the game - and revealed she felt 'incredible' in the wake of her side's triumph.

"Over the moon, incredible," said the Arsenal forward.

"We've been saying we've been dreaming of the semis but this is what it's all about, a World Cup final with this group. Buzzing.

"When they scored they got momentum, the place erupted and then Hempo's goal just flipped the momentum which was crucial so to get 3-1 you can settle a bit and see the game out.

"That's why we do what we do on the pitch is because of all our friends and family.

"To celebrate with them now is really special."
