Sarah Ferguson's return to the royal fold is hanging in the balance with a key decision.
The Duchess of York married Prince Andrew in 1986 at Westminster Abbey before divorcing a decade later.
Despite the couple ending their marriage in 1996, Andrew, 64, and Sarah, 65, have remained close and even cohabitate at Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Fergie, as the duchess is affectionately known, made her gradual return to the royal fold last year when she joined the Duke of York and their children, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, at Sandringham for Christmas.

This marked Sarah's first time publicly celebrating Christmas with the Royal Family since 1991.
The Daily Beast has reported that the Duke and Duchess of York are still waiting to be invited to this year's festive celebrations in Norfolk.
A friend of Prince Andrew's claimed: "Usually everyone would know what bits they are invited to by now. This year, it’s just wait and see.”
GB News contacted the Duke and Duchess of York with regards to their Christmas plans for 2024.
However, Sarah's representatives refused to comment, leaving the door open for a return to the royal fold.
The couple's children Princess Beatrice, 36, and Princess Eugenie, 34, attend the Christmas celebrations at Sandringham every year with their respective families.
Beatrice is currently expecting her second child with her property developer husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
The couple welcomed their first child, Sienna Elizabeth, back in 2021.
LATEST ROYAL NEWS:
The property developer also has an eight-year-old son named Wolfie from his previous relationship with Dara Huang.
Wolfie is largely being tipped to attend the royal walkabout on Sandringham this year, just as he did back in 2022.
In 2023, the eight-year-old travelled to Florida with his mother.
Meanwhile, Princess Eugenie has two sons with her husband, Jack Brooksbank, named August, three, and Ernest one.
