A shortage of royals available to attend engagements has led to criticism of the monarchy

The Royal Family have been holding emergency meetings over potentially calling up Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice as working royals.

King Charles has slimmed down the Royal Family during his first 12 months as monarch.

Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Kate, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh are the working members of the Royal Family that King Charles has been calling upon to carry out engagements.

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Prince Andrew are former senior members of the Royal Family who no longer perform duties for the Firm.

There is now a shortage of royals to attend engagements and this has led to criticism of the monarchy.

The Duke of York's daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are currently not working members of the Royal Family, but according to a source, the possibility is being considered.

The source told Ok!: "Emergency meetings have been held to come up with a solution to fulfil the growing number of royal engagements both here in the UK and abroad.

"There needs to be some younger blood to reach the younger generation and the only candidates available are Beatrice and Eugenie."

In August, Prince William and the Royal Family suffered a backlash after it was confirmed the Prince of Wales would not attend England's Women's World Cup final match against Spain.

There were calls for another senior member of the Royal Family to go in the prince's place but in the end, Foreign Secretary James Cleverly attended the historic match in New Zealand instead.

Prince William did release a video alongside his daughter Princess Charlotte wishing England's Lionesses luck in the final that they eventually lost 1-0.

This month, no member of the Royal Family attended the Danish Royal Family's celebration to mark Prince Christian's 18th birthday.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

An insider claimed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's close relationship with Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie is "concerning" members of the Royal Family.

However, earlier this month an insider claimed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's close relationship with Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie is "concerning" members of the Royal Family.

The Duke of Sussex has always had a strong bond with his cousins and this has continued after he stepped down as a working member of the Royal Family in 2020.

The insider told Heat Magazine: "For the King, Camilla, and the Waleses, it's rather unfortunate that Eugenie and Beatrice are so close with the Sussexes."

They added: "[Beatrice and Eugenie are] still privy to a lot of what's happening inside Buckingham Palace, so there's a concern about what they're telling them, and what they could reveal - even unintentionally".
