The King and Queen are planning for a long-haul international tour in 2024

The Royal Family are still planning for King Charles to travel to Australia despite the monarch’s cancer diagnosis.

Following the King’s cancer announcement, plans for the monarch to visit Australia with the Queen in October were being questioned.

But plans are still being made for the King and Queen to travel Down Under in October and early November.

The Australian Government is asking for submissions from premiers and chief ministers as they plan what territories to include for the monarch’s visit.

The royal voyage has been scheduled around the Commonwealth heads of government meeting in Samoa which begins on October 21, 2024.

During a statement, Anthony Albanese, the Australian Prime Minister said they are preparing for the King’s upcoming tour.

He said: “The King has shown his compassion for Australians affected by recent natural disasters, just as Australians have shown compassion and support for the King following his cancer diagnosis.

“The King, Queen and members of the Royal Family are always welcome in Australia.

“My government is engaging with states and territories on options for a possible royal visit.”

The last time a ruling monarch visited Australia was in October 2011 when the late Queen Elizabeth went to the country.

Charles last visited the country in 2018 when he was the Prince of Wales and both Prince William and Prince Harry have visited the country in the last few years.

The King has travelled to the country 15 times on working trips and also studied for six months at the Timbertop, Geelong Grammar School in Victoria.

Last month, a source said that the King was still “hopeful” for the long-haul international tour to go ahead.

The source said: “We continue planning, but we’re not at any stage to confirm timing or dates because it’s the first week of the King’s treatment.”

It comes as King Charles’s image is set to be dropped from Australia’s $5 note.

Queen Elizabeth’s image is set to be replaced by Aboriginal themes instead of the monarch.
