Filmmaker speaks out on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's 'inner circle' just days before royal bombshell

"Harry - The Lost Prince", directed by German filmmaker Ulrike Grunewald, will be Germany's first documentary on the fallout from Megxit.

Grunewald has previously directed royal documentaries, including "Die Windsors" (2009) and "Princess Diana's Dangerous Legacy" (2021).

The filmmaker and her five-person crew travelled to Montecito, California, to investigate the Sussexes' life following their departure from royal duties in 2020.

This documentary offered the Duke and Duchess of Sussex no editorial input.

Speaking about her investigation, Grunewald said: "The worst accusations always come from their own circle... Revelations that shocked the Royal Family came directly from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle."

The documentary is set to examine the seismic shifts within the British monarchy since the Sussexes stepped back from their duties.

The film delves into the couple's new life in California, where they have established their post-royal existence.

The documentary, set to air on December 3 at 8.15pm, is already being touted as one of the year's most talked-about royal programmes.

German media's stance on the Sussexes has seen a notable shift since their initial departure from royal duties.

In 2020, German newspapers were openly critical of Megxit, with the Süddeutsche Zeitung describing their decision as "an affront to tradition and the expectations of the British public."

Die Welt newspaper was equally harsh, stating the couple's withdrawal was "a slap in the face of the monarchy and its supporters."

However, by September 2023 during the Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, media coverage of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was largely positive.

The documentary also explores broader challenges facing the British monarchy in recent times.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022 features prominently in the film's examination of royal transitions.

Current health concerns surrounding King Charles III and the Princess of Wales are also addressed.

These developments are presented against the backdrop of the ongoing rift between Harry and his father.

The film suggests these combined factors highlight the monarchy's difficulties in navigating the post-Elizabethan era.
