Queen Camilla shared a touching moment with a grey poodle therapy dog named Fenton just months after the death of her beloved Jack Russel.

Camilla asked the poodle's handler if he "came to cheer people up."

Fenton was wearing a bow tie for the occasion.

Camilla said: "I am sure you make a lot of people feel a lot better."

She added: "You are the star of the show.

"Very sweet and very smart little haircut."

The poodle wagged his tail enthusiastically as he met the Queen.

Therapy dogs are canines who visit patients to help provide emotional and physical support.

The dogs aim to boost patients mental health or encourage exercise.

The interaction took place as Queen Camilla returned to where she gave birth to her daughter Laura Lopes, Great Western Hospital in Swindon, to open its new emergency department today.

The hospital expansion cost £33.5million, and is due to provide the urgent care to those in need.

Camilla has publically expressed her love for dogs in the past, specifically Jack Russell's.

In a heartbreaking announcement in November, she revealed her beloved her Jack Russell Beth had died.

Beth, who was adopted by the royal in 2011, had to be put down after suffering from an untreatable tumour.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: "A sad farewell to Beth, The Queen's much-loved companion from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home who brought such joy, whether on walkies, helping on official duties, or curled up by the fire."

Camilla has previously owned two named Tosca and Rosie, who have since passed away.
