One writer said she and the Queen happened to have the same habit

The Queen gets teased by "everybody" about her "obsession" with a specific app, a children's author has said.

Horrid Henry writer, Francesca Simon said she realised she and Camilla had the same habit when they began discussing the miserable weather in July.


While attending at event in honour of the National Literacy Trust’s 30th anniversary, Simon learnt about the Queen's "obsession" with weather apps.

The celebration was due to be held outside but following heavy downpours on Tuesday, it was moved inside Clarence House.

The children's writer said: "We were laughing about our mutual love of weather apps.

"She mentioned it was raining in France, where I’m meant to be today, and I said, ‘Yeah, I know’.

"She said everybody teases her, because I’m also looking at weather in various parts of the world, and she’s the same – so we were laughing at our mutual obsession."

The event was held to celebrate the bestselling authors and volunteers for the trust - which helps aid children and adults of all ages literacy skills.

The Queen's support is "invaluable" to the charity, Simon - who is an ambassador for the trust - said.

She added: "She turns up and puts her passion for reading, which is very genuine, behind it – so it’s really fun to have that kind of commitment that’s much more than skin deep."

Camilla sliced a commemorative cake, and delivered an impromptu speech for guests.

She said: "A huge thank you to you all. You all do a brilliant job.

"I hope the next 30 years will achieve something that makes illiteracy a relic of the past. Thank you so, so much for all you do."

Camilla has been a patron of the charity since 2010.

Axel Scheffler, illustrator of The Gruffalo, agreed that the Queen's work with the charity was "immensely important".

"I know she’s read The Gruffalo to her grandchildren," he added.
