The Princess of York shared an Instagram post of her eldest son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, 3, colouring in an England flag on a piece of paper.

Eugenie shared the post on Sunday afternoon, hours before England suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Spain.

The Princess wrote: "Making our flags ready for the big game tonight - Let me know in the comments where you’re watching the game. Good luck @england you’ve made us all so proud. #euros".

The royal and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, have two children together, August and Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, 1.

Eugenie's cousin, Prince William, watched the final in Berlin alongside his son Prince George.

Gareth Southgate's team conceded a late goal as Spain won their first major title in 12 years.

The result condemned England to back-to-back defeats in European Championship finals under Southgate.

Despite going a goal down within minutes of the second half, England looked to have found a way back into the game when substitute Cole Palmer equalised with a strike from outside the box.

However, Spain hit back in the 85th minute and Southgate's squad could not find an answer in the remaining amount of time.

The Prince of Wales issued a statement on social media following the bruising defeat.

William wrote: "This time it just wasn’t meant to be. We’re all still so proud of you. Onwards @England. W"
