Princess Beatrice makes major announcement with fellow royal after missing key event

Princess Beatrice has been newly announced as the global co-chair of the World Economic Forum's climate initiative, despite pulling out of attending the forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The Princess of York, expecting her second child this spring, was due to attend the prestigious event between January 20-24.
Her absence comes after receiving medical advice against long-distance travel in December, which also prompted changes to her Christmas plans.
The royal has since been named global co-chair of the World Economic Forum's Giving to Amplify Earth Action (GAEA) initiative alongside Queen Rania of Jordan.

In her new role with GAEA, Princess Beatrice will focus on developing artificial intelligence solutions to tackle climate change.
The initiative aims to mobilise AI capabilities, funding and technological resources for environmental action.
A key aspect of her role will be promoting women's leadership in technology to ensure more diverse and unbiased solutions to climate challenges.

As co-chairs, Princess Beatrice and Queen Rania will play pivotal roles in steering GAEA's new programme to protect the environment.
The princess's withdrawal from Davos followed medical guidance received in December against international travel.
This advice also led to changes in her Christmas arrangements, with the royal opting to join the wider Royal Family at Sandringham.
She and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi had initially planned to spend the festive period in Italy with his family.

Instead, the couple altered their plans to be at Sandringham rather than joining her parents at Royal Lodge.
Princess Beatrice was previously a regular attendee at the World Economic Forum.
Her collaboration with Queen Rania marks their second partnership on global initiatives.
The pair previously worked together at the Women in the World Summit in 2015.

Their connection was further strengthened when Princess Beatrice attended Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan and Rajwa Al Saif's wedding in June 2023.
For the royal occasion, she chose a glittering blue Needle & Thread dress, paired with Ralph & Russo pumps and a Sophia Webster clutch.
