The Duke of Sussex will inherit £7million from his great-grandmother when he turns 40 next month

Prince William is “disgusted” by Prince Harry’s huge inheritance which he will take back to Montecito, according to a source.

The 39-year-old will inherit a whopping £7million from his great-grandmother when he turns 40 next month.

The money comes from a trust fund that the Queen Mother set up for her grandchildren - she put the majority of her estimated £70million wealth into it and Harry’s share is around 10 per cent.

The Duke of Sussex’s share is larger than his brother’s, as the Prince of Wales is already benefiting financially from the Duchy of Cornwall estate.

However, William is reportedly appalled by the lucrative sum, in light of Harry’s fallout with his family after he stepped down as a working royal in 2020.

A source told Closer: “William's pretty disgusted that once again Harry's going to be cashing out and taking millions back to his Montecito home without lifting a finger for it.

“There's nothing he can do about it, aside from shaking his head, but if it were up to him, Harry would not be getting this payday.

“William doesn't think his brother is in any position to be getting this handout and he's letting it be known that he thinks it's a pretty rotten situation.”

The relationship between Harry and his family has been strained ever since he moved to the US with his wife Meghan Markle in January 2020.

Since his move to Montecito, things have turned frosty between Harry and the firm, thanks in part to a series of bombshell claims that Harry made in his memoir Spare, which was released in January 2023.

Harry wrote that his brother was critical of his wife, whom he relocated to the United States in 2020, and that William allegedly called her “difficult”, “rude” and “abrasive”.

The Duke of Sussex also discussed various points of contention between his wife and Kate. One specific disagreement revolved around Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress, which left Meghan reportedly “sobbing on the floor”.

Aside from Harry’s scathing memoir, the couple’s Netflix series released in 2022, and their landmark interview with Oprah in 2021, had previously added fuel to the fire.

William and Harry have barely spoken over the last 18 months and last saw each other at the Coronation in May 2023.

“I’m pretty sure that the late Queen Mother never dreamed that Prince Harry would stand down from full-time royal duties,” broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard told Fox News Digital.

“She would have assumed that he would always have been Prince William’s right-hand man. I imagine there are a lot of mixed feelings regarding the inheritance split. Ultimately, the Royal Family will be relieved that Prince Harry has sufficient money to keep him out of mischief,” she continued.

Regarding the hefty sum Harry is due to inherit, royal correspondent Kinsey Schofield said that the Duke of Sussex was given more money because the Queen Mother knew he would have fewer opportunities than his elder brother.

She said: “Prince Harry is set to receive more money than Prince William because he is the spare.”
