An ally of Prince William has torn apart fresh claims on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's treatment in the Royal Family.

Omid Scobie, a royal author, claimed in his new book Endgame that Prince William's aides briefed against the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Scobie previously wrote the biography Finding Freedom on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's time in the monarchy.

The couple have distanced themselves from Scobie's new book.

An ally of the Prince of Wales has hit out at the fresh claims made by the royal author.

A source close to William told the Mail: "It's one thing writing a critique of the Royal Family. That's freedom of expression.

"But it's another thing to peddle conspiracy theories dressed up as fact.

"The suggestion that [royal aides] were briefing negative stories [about Harry and Meghan] is totally fabricated. It just didn't happen.

"The truth is that everyone was walking on eggshells practically from the engagement trying to keep them happy."

Earlier this month, a royal insider slammed Scobie for reopening wounds within the monarchy.

The source added that Kate, Princess of Wales and William appear to be the author's "number one target".

The insider told the Mirror: "It appears no matter what happens behind closed doors, even in a time of such pain and grief, that where the Royal Family are concerned it will one day emerge.

"Nothing is off limits with William and Kate appearing to be this author’s number one target.

"It only takes a few months for the knives to come out again and the wounds to be opened up."

An extract of Endgame published in People earlier this month contained claims that Prince William ignored Prince Harry on the day Queen Elizabeth II died.

According to the claims, the Duke of Sussex was left to fend for himself and sort his own travel arrangements to Balmoral on September 8 2022.
