The Prince of Wales is the heir to the throne

Some Americans want Prince William to become monarch now by skipping his father King Charles, according to a royal super fan in the US.

GB News spoke to New Yorkers as they waited for a glimpse of the Prince of Wales during his two-day visit to the US last week.

One royal watcher based in the US backed Prince William as the key to the Royal Family's long-term survival.

She said: "I hate to say it but once William takes the reins I think it will be a much different sentiment.

"I think people want William to skip Charles, even though I think that he's going to be a great King and he is a great King.

"I think once he [William] gets the reins, I think things are going to change and I think they will survive long term."

The Prince of Wales is the heir to the throne, however, the possibility of Prince William becoming monarch while King Charles is still alive is incredibly unlikely.

King Charles became monarch in September 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Previously, King Charles was the longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

The King was first in line in the Royal Family's line of succession for 70 years before he succeeded his mother.

In a recent poll, William was crowned the most popular public figure in the United States who could unite the country.

Other Americans spoke exclusively to GB News in New York to Prince William as a "role model".

When asked why William is so popular, a New Yorker said: "I think his optimism.

"I think that Americans like to have that sense of we could be better, we could be doing more and he embodies that.

"He just keeps his head down and gets the job done. So there's a deep appreciation for that as well."
