The Prince of Wales was reported to want 'more control' over the monarchy

Prince William is “not excluded” by King Charles as he trains for his future role as monarch, a royal historian has claimed.

Despite reports of a rift between the King and the Prince of Wales, a royal commentator has rubbished these claims.

Last month, the Prince of Wales was reported to want “more control” over the monarchy.

But despite reports of a rift, royal historian Marlene Koenig has said this is normal for an heir and sovereign to be slightly competitive.

She said: “You always have this. There’s always this, quote-on-quote rivalry, between heir and sovereign.

“I don’t think it’s a rivalry. William is doing his path and what he sees his role as heir is.

“There are constitutional obligations and he saw what his father did, which was good, and now he’s finding his own path doing similar things, but differently in a way.”

Koenig mentioned how Quieen Victoria, in contrast to King Charles, excluded her eldest son from knowing the intricate details of being a monarch.

She added: “In the case of Queen Victoria, she never included her son, Edward VII.

“He was a playboy, he cheated on his wife, he got involved in a scandal, and yet, became a peacemaker when he was King.

“She excluded him from letting him know.”

The royal historian acknowledged that Queen Elizabeth II was made “very aware” of her future role when she was the Princess Royal.

Koenig continued to tell The Express: “On the other hand, George VI made sure Elizabeth was very aware.

“She was given constitutional law lessons and her education was formed around being the future sovereign.

“William is finding his own ways as heir, and of course, he is not excluded by his father.”
