The Prince and Princess of Wales are said to be profoundly distressed by the events in Israel

Prince William and Princess Kate have condemned the "appalling horrors" inflicted by Hamas in Israel as they release a moving statement.

The royal couple said they "hold all the victims, their families and their friends in their hearts and minds" after Hamas launched a surprise attack on Saturday morning.


In Israel, at least 1,200 people have died and more than 2,900 others have been injured by Hamas forces.

Palestinian authorities said at least 1,055 people have been killed and another 5,184 have been injured in Gaza due to Israeli retaliatory attacks.

A spokesperson for The Prince and Princess of Wales said: "The Prince and Princess of Wales are profoundly distressed by the devastating events that have unfolded in the past days.

"The horrors inflicted by Hamas’s terrorist attack upon Israel are appalling; they utterly condemn them.

"As Israel exercises its right of self defence, all Israelis and Palestinians will continue to be stalked by grief, fear and anger in the time to come.

"Their Royal Highnesses hold all the victims, their families and their friends in their hearts and minds.

"Those The Prince of Wales met in 2018 overwhelmingly shared a common hope - that of a better future.

"In the midst of such terrible suffering, The Prince and Princess continue to share that hope without reservation."

It comes after King Charles also issued a statement regarding the ongoing conflict as he condemned "the barbaric acts of terrorism in Israel".

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: "This is a situation His Majesty is extremely concerned about, and he has asked to be kept actively updated.

"His thoughts and prayers are with all of those suffering, particularly those who have lost loved ones, but also those actively involved."

Witnesses in Israel have described reports of children being beheaded in the streets and elderly holocaust survivors being held hostage.

Leaders across the world have condemned the attacks by Hamas, including American President Joe Biden.

The 80-year-old called the attacks “an act of sheer evil” and added that at least 14 Americans were killed.
