Hundreds of horses took part in the historic ceremony today

Prince Louis was left very unimpressed by the smell of horse waste on the Mall today as he took part in the procession for Trooping the Colour.

The cheeky young royal has repeatedly amused Britons with his funny facial expressions and cute reactions while taking part in public events.

He pulled a face and pinched his nose to help hide the smell of horse poop as he rode in a horse-drawn carriage alongside his siblings from Buckingham Palace today.

The three children were joined in the carriage by the Queen, who is Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, and the Princess of Wales as Colonel of the Irish Guards.

The royal party were in the midst of a sovereign’s mounted escort, formed by troops from the Household Cavalry’s Life Guards and Blues and Royals, in their shining breastplates and plumed helmets, and a ripple of cheers followed them when they travelled along the Mall.

Hundreds of horses took part in the event, leaving a trail of waste behind them.

The event featured around 1,500 soldiers in total and hundreds of Guardsmen were lined up on the parade ground waiting to be inspected by King.

For the first time in over 30 years, the monarch was also riding on horseback.

The sight of a monarch riding throughout Trooping the Colour had not happened since 1986 when the Queen rode her charger Burmese for the final time.

It was a gift from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and Charles’ horse Noble was also from the Commonwealth country’s famous Mounties.

Appearing to share Louis's disgust at the smell caused by the waste from the number of horses taking part in today's ceremony, gathered crowds cheered when two street sweepers made their way down the road after the procession to clean up the left behind mess.

Kate and William's youngest child has only started to attend big royal events over the past year and only took part in his first official royal engagement after the King's Coronation.

Smartly dressed in a suit, Louis waved to the crowds in central London watching the ceremony.

After arriving at Horse Guard's parade, he watched his grandfather inspect the troops from the balcony.

He later also joined the royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for a flypast.
