Prince Louis told the footballers to eat double the amount of food before the match
Prince Louis could be "correct" with the advice that he gave the England football squad ahead of their first match at the weekend.
On Monday Prince William met with England manager Gareth Southgate and his 26-man squad before the tournament begins on Friday.
The Prince of Wales revealed he asked his three young children, Prince George 10, Princess Charlotte 9, and Prince Louis 6, for any messages that he should pass on to footballers.
He added that Louis suggested the players should eat twice the amount of food they normally consume to prepare for the tournament.
Prince Louis gave the footballers some advice
Kensington PalaceEngland captain Harry Kane jokingly said of Louis’ advice: "We’ve got to be careful with that one. I don’t think our nutritionist will be happy with that."
However, it seems that Louis's advice could be helpful after Daniel Herman, a nutritionist and founder of Bio-Synergy, said that the young royal was actually "correct."
LATEST ROYAL UPDATES:
Prince William met with England manager Gareth Southgate and his 26-man squad before the tournament begins on Friday.
XSpeaking to MailOnline, Herman said: "Having worked with elite footballers since the 90s, it is fair to say like other athletes the physical demands of training and match day will require additional calories, so Prince Louis' assessment is correct.
"Based on experience and studies, it is recommended that pre-match, footballers should consider loading up with complex carbohydrates to provide sustained energy and protein to assist with recovery.
"In fact, many pro teams use protein powders and isotonic electrolyte drinks, which will mean an increased calorie intake, although compared to a training day, total calories are likely to be lower."
It seems to have left some people dived though as nutritionist GQ Jordan told the outlet that while players need extra fuel on match days, "doubling their usual intake isn't quite the way to go."
The men's football team are the current favourite to win the Euros and Prince William, who is the head of the Football Association (FA), travelled to St George's Park in Burton upon Trent on Monday to wish the team luck.
The Prince of Wales spent some time with the whole team as well as England manager Gareth Southgate and presented the 26 players with their numbered shirts.
William is known to be a football fan and often appears at Aston Villa games with his sons.
The prince revealed his love of Birmingham-based football club Aston Villa to the BBC in 2015: "A long time ago at school I got into football big time. I was looking around for clubs.
"All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans and I didn’t want to follow the run-of-the-mill teams.
"I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments.
"Aston Villa's always had a great history. I have got friends of mine who support Aston Villa and one of the first FA Cup games I went to was Bolton v Aston Villa back in 2000. Sadly, Villa went on to lose to Chelsea.
"It was fantastic, I sat with all the fans with my red beanie on, and I was sat with all the Brummie fans and had a great time. It was the atmosphere, the camaraderie and I really felt that there was something I could connect with."
