The Duke of Sussex has spoken to former aides in the UK to explore his options for a UK return, according to sources

Prince Harry's planned part-time return to the UK would "disobey" the last wish of the late Queen Elizabeth to him and Meghan Markle, it has been claimed.

The Duke of Sussex is said to be "turning away from Hollywood publicists" and rekindling his contact with aides in the UK.

A source told The Mail on Sunday that Harry is "seeking counsel from his old friends and associates", and is "rethinking the way he operates".

They added: "He's clearly reaching out thinking, ‘I need to do something different because what I'm doing is clearly not working’."

Speaking to GB News, royal commentator Caroline Aston claimed that Prince Harry becoming a part-time working royal would "disobey" Queen Elizabeth II's wish for the Sussexes to not be "half in, half out".

Aston also questioned why the Prince wants to return to the UK after four years in America, suggesting that the "American dream has lost its way".

Aston said: "He's offered to do a little light royal work, zero publicity of course, zero balcony appearances. How likely is that? There would be a piranha fish fest going on the moment he set foot on our shores.

"At the back of all this lies the undeniable fact that Brand Sussex, the Great American Dream, has somewhat lost its way. The proof of any pudding is in the eating, and there must be a very sad, sour taste in the mouths of both Sussexes."

Discussing the current state of the Royal Family, Aston noted that with the King and Princess Kate still undergoing cancer treatment, the move by Harry could be a possible olive branch by the monarch to his son.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Aston told GB News: "Let's look at it from the King's viewpoint, he's still undergoing cancer treatment. He's 76 in November. He has loose ends in his life which anybody faced with a diagnosis like his might just want to tighten up a little bit.

"And we know he's been consulting spiritual advisors about the nature of forgiveness. So that could be some motivation on his side."

However, Aston cast doubt on Prince Harry returning to royal duties and claimed that it is simply "publicity for the Sussexes".

Aston explained: "The Netflix contract comes up for renewal next year, this is a crucial time for the Sussexes. And it's interesting that these trusted aides and friends he's been consulting are so trusted?

"Of course, they've leaked the whole idea to the press, because at the end of the day, publicity is oxygen to the Sussexes.

"And what better publicity could you have than this dangling?"

Aston concluded: "They're dangling the carrot of reconciliation, knowing the press will zero in on this like an Exocet missile."

Multiple sources close to the duke have insisted that this is not the case, and he is very much happy and settled in California.

"Well-placed sources" told The Telegraph that Harry has "no interest" in returning to royal duties and has an "amazing" new set of friends and several projects on the horizon.
