Heffer wants Harry to focus on living a 'quiet' life

Prince Harry is “poisoned against the idea of royalty” and is hell-bent on continuing his agenda against his family, according to historian Simon Hefner.

He joined Steve Edginton on GB News to discuss the latest royal travails amid Harry’s ongoing feud with figures of the royal establishment like his brother, Prince William.

Harry has continued to appear in the limelight after taking a step back from royal duties and moving to California with his wife, Meghan Markle, in 2020.

Heffer told GB News that if Harry “has any regard for his family and their peculiar position” he would take a step back and instead focus on living a more “quiet” life.

“I understand he’s got to earn a living, but nobody forced him into this”, he said.

“He didn’t have to leave the Royal Family. It’s quite clear that his father in particular wanted him to stay.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

“It was quite clear that there was a serious job for him to do. He was very popular with the public and since he got married six years ago, something has happened.

“I’m not party to his private thoughts, I don’t know anything about the internal workings of his marriage, but something has happened that has poisoned him against his family and against the idea of royalty.

“His brother ends up with everything as King, and he ends up with just a dukedom next door. It’s not too bad.

“If he doesn’t want to work with the Royal Family, no one is going to force him. What perhaps isn’t clear is that there might be other ways for him to earn a living that don’t involve embarrassing his family who have a very important job to do for this country.

“He seems to be slightly deficient in the loyalty not just to his father, not just to the throne, but to his country.”

Since taking a step back, Harry and Meghan have taken shots at the Royal Family via Netflix documentaries and interviews, hitting out at the behaviour of some behind closed doors.

Heffer told Steve the claims have an “element of the boy who cried wolf” with Harry no longer accruing sympathy from the public.

“How many more rather ghostly books can he churn out and be taken seriously?”, he asked.

“I read enough of Spare to get a flavour of it. I thought it was horrible.”

Harry and Meghan have focused a lot of their efforts since stepping back from royal life on charity work through their Archewell Foundation.

The Duke of Sussex has also continued to spearhead the Invictus Games, which he established.
