The Royal Family was left unimpressed by Prince Harry's "tasteless" comments on Queen Elizabeth II, sources have claimed.
Courtiers were left "distinctly unimpressed", according to reports, after the Duke of Sussex claimed his late grandmother supported his legal battles against the British press.
In Harry's interview with ITV News, the duke claimed Queen Elizabeth II had fully supported his legal battle against the popular press and had personally urged him on.
He declared: "We had many conversations before she passed and this is very much something that she supported.
"She knew how much this meant to me and she's very much up there saying 'see this through to the end'."
It was true that the late Queen approved a decision in 2018 to threaten News Group Newspapers with legal action over its apparent lack of response to hacking claims, as emails disclosed to the High Court made clear.
But Harry also alleged in court documents that his grandmother knew about a "secret agreement" between Buckingham Palace and the publisher of The Sun newspaper, under which, he claimed, the royals agreed not to sue.
This allegation was strongly denied by all sides, and Harry's claim was rejected by a judge as not "reaching the necessary threshold of plausibility and cogency".
One courtier told The Mail they were "unhappy" with Harry's "tasteless" attempt to claim his grandmother's support in his continuing "crusade".
He said: "There is something distinctly 'off' about it.
"We'll never know what was said between grandson and grandmother.
"What we do know is that we will only ever know one side of the story."

Prince Harry and Meghan stepped back as working royals in 2020 and moved to California.
They are currently raising their two children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, in Montecito.
Although the couple frequently expressed their fondness for the late Queen, the duke and duchess are not thought to be on speaking terms with King Charles or Prince William.
While Harry has returned to the UK for various court appearances and an Invictus Games service in May, Meghan has not returned to this country since Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in 2022.
