Harry and Meghan will make separate public appearances in New York and California on Wednesday

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's professional separation is "not working" for the Duchess of Sussex, according to a royal commentator.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have pivoted to making solo public appearances and undertaking projects on their own as they have moved away from their goal of achieving power couple status in 2024.

The couple will make separate public appearances in the US on Wednesday with Harry attending an event in New York and Meghan stepping out in California.

Royal commentator Paula Froelich has claimed that Harry is benefitting from the solo engagements but they are not working for Meghan.

Froelich told the Daily Beast: "The current reset is: Harry focuses on charity and Meghan focuses on commercial projects.

"They are trying to show they are individual powerhouses. It’s working for Harry but not so much for Meghan.

"It’s going to be interesting to see how she handles being constantly upstaged by her husband."

PR Norah Lawlor warned that the tactic has risks for the couple's professional working relationship.

Lawlor said: "The risk is that making L.A. engagements a ‘Meghan’ brand attribute and royal-type engagements a ‘Harry’ brand attribute will pull them further apart not just in terms of scheduling, but also in terms of mindset and goals."

However, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams backed Meghan to come out on top in ratings between the Sussexes following their professional separation.

Meghan and Harry signed a joint deal with Netflix after stepping down as working members of the Royal Family in 2020.

The Sussexes' debut series Harry & Meghan was a huge hit on the streaming platform and broke several Netflix records.

They featured heavily in it together but have since changed tactics in the content they are producing for the streaming giant.

Harry released Heart of the Invictus in August 2023 which Meghan barely featured in but the series failed to reach the same level of success as their debut project.

The Duke of Sussex's next project titled Polo will be released on December 10, meanwhile, the Duchess of Sussex will feature in a cookery programme on Netflix in 2025.

Fitzwilliams told GB News that Meghan's project will be much more of an attraction for Netflix customers.

He said: "Meghan's cookery programme will have a lot of viewers. There is no doubt it will be more successful than Polo."
