Ted Sarandos has spoken about the success of Meghan and Harry’s Netflix deal

Britons “devour everything” about Harry and Meghan as the couple are set to release four new projects, Netflix's chief has said.

The co-chief of Netflix, Ted Sandros, talked about the “controversial” couple’s successful $100million deal with the streaming platform.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed an £80m deal with Netflix in 2020.

Since then, they have released a six-part series about their life, a voiceover documentary Live to Lead, Harry’s docuseries Heart of Invictus and a children’s animation called Pearl.

Sandros said: “The documentary we did on them [Harry and Meghan] is still one of our most-watched documentaries of all time on Netflix and huge, particularly in the UK, where people just devour everything about them.

“They’re controversial, but that’s usually a good thing. You may love them or hate them, but you’re watching.”

Last year, it was announced that the duke and duchess had acquired the rights to the novel Meet Me at the Lake.

It is thought that the new film may be an adaptation of the book by Carley Fortune which is set in Toronto.

In a live event written up by Forbes, Sandros continued: “And I do think that they are also going to be very strong storytellers, with great exposure to media in terms of what people want to talk about, what they think about, and they’re great at getting attention.”

There have been tensions between Harry and the rest of his family after the couple made several claims against the Royal Family during their Netflix series.

The Netflix boss also commented on how Harry and Meghan and Barack and Michelle Obama were “gambles and risks.”

He said: “We basically go in and fortify them with a good staff and infrastructure to produce with.

“Sometimes we bring projects to them. And sometimes they bring projects to us. So it works out nicely.”

Last month, an executive at the company said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are working on a “bunch” of projects for the streaming platform including two “unscripted” projects.

Netflix’s chief content officer, Bela Bajara, revealed that over the next 12 months Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Productions could produce multiple different types of content.

Bajara said regarding the couple: “They actually have a bunch in development,” as she spoke at an event in Hollywood where Netflix unveiled their forthcoming films and television shows.

Bajaria did not give any further details about what the projects may be about but it is understood that the “unscripted” projects may be another documentary.

If the duke and duchess release another documentary revealing private information about the Royal Family tensions may worsen.

Another source previously told The Telegraph that they have “fictional” and “fun” content in the works.

The source said: “There will be more of a heavy focus on fictional, scripted content, it will be romcoms, feel-good and light-hearted programmes.”
