Potential power cuts in the area would make it difficult to call for emergency help if required

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be forced to leave their Californian property as devastating wildfires sweep the region.

Los Angeles authorities have been battling the blazes which have torn across the area amid high winds, destroying homes and causing tens of thousands of people to flee.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex would have to leave their house if the fires resulted in a power cut, given the impact on communication networks, making it difficult to call for emergency help if required.

Californian Governor Gavin Newson declared a state of emergency with officials preparing for the situation to worsen.

Local electricity provider Southern California Edison is considering a shutdown due to a “Red Flag” warning and increased wildfire risks in parts of Santa Barbara County.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have resided in the “high fire risk” region for nearly five years with their children, Prince Archie, five, and Lilibet, three.

This has raised the prospect of Harry and Meghan losing power at their home, forcing them to leave temporarily.

The power company expects the “Public Safety Power Shutoff” could affect over 4,000 customers in Santa Barbara County.

According to the organisation, all residents or businesses under consideration for evacuation have been notified.

Regarding the royal property, the company's online property checker tool said: “This location is in a High Fire Risk Area.”

“Power may be shut off during a PSPS to prevent wildfires.”

It adds: “Be prepared for a PSPS during this time, although we may avoid shut-offs.”
