The Duke of Sussex will be appearing in a new documentary by ITV named Tabloids On Trial

Prince Harry looks "very sad" and "a bit haunted" in comparison to his days in the army, commentator Peter Barnes has claimed.

He made the comments ahead of the Duke of Sussex appearing in a new documentary called Tabloids On Trial that will be released this evening. In preview footage the Prince states that the media is at least partially responsible for his rift with his family.

Harry served in Afghanistan on two tours of duty as a helicopter pilot in the British Army, he now lives in the US with his wife Meghan Markle and two children.

Speaking to to GB News, Peter Barnes said: "He looks very sad these days. Don't you think that about him now?

"I think he looks a bit haunted. I look at him from when he was in the army to look at him now.

"And I don't see the same person if I'm being brutally honest."

Barnes added: "The thing that really annoys me about Prince Harry is he kind of refuses to take any accountability for his role in all of this situation.

"It always seems to be somebody else's fault. And I find that very problematic in a behavioural way.

"At first everyone was always like, 'oh, it's Meghan who is leading the charge on this stuff'. I think Prince Harry was a willing volunteer in this from day one.

"I think he's now dealing with the consequences of his actions. And I don't think he knows how to deal with this.

"I think in this interview he is going say 'I might have messed up in court a couple of times, but I've still got a point'. It's kind of a saving face interview."

In a preview clip from the documentary, journalist Becca Barry asked the royal: "To what extent do you think your determination to fight the tabloids destroyed your relationship with your family?"

Prince Harry replied: "It is certainly a central piece to it.

"It is a hard question to answer because anything I say about my family results in a torrent of abuse from the press.

"I have made it very clear that this is something that needs to be done.

"It would be nice if we did it as a family, I believe from a service standpoint and when you are in a public role these are the things we should be doing for the greater good.

"I am doing this for my reasons."
