The Duke of Sussex caused a stir when he released his memoir last year

Prince Harry's book "was horrible," according to historian Simon Heffer, who warned the duke has since "lost his credibility."

The Duke of Sussex caused a stir when he released his memoir, Spare, last year that included a series of attacks on senior members of the Royal Family.

Asked whether he had read the book, Heffer said: "I read bits of it. I mean, life's too short, but I read enough of it to get a flavour of it. I thought it was horrible."

He added: "People are shocked the first time. But how many more Netflix series? How many more rather ghastly books can he churn out and be taken seriously?"

GB News host Steven Edginton asked: "Do you think that we should accept him back to the UK if Hollywood don't want him?"

He responded: "It's not up to us. The decision has to be made by his father and with the advice of his brother.

"I think if things go wrong for him there, and he's willing to come back and play by the rules that the rest of the Royal Family play then it would be wrong of any of us as mere subjects, to say we shouldn't come back.

"But there's no doubt that if he continues to embarrass the Royal Family and to make a bit of an exhibition of himself, the public won't like it, and he will be a drag on the Royal Family."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as working members of the Royal Family in 2020 and moved to the US via a short stay in Canada.

Harry is not on speaking terms with his older brother, evidenced by the pair not meeting during his two recent trips to the UK.

The duke jetted home in February in a whirlwind visit after learning of his father’s cancer diagnosis.

The pair exchanged words in a short meeting before Harry made his way back across the pond.

Despite many suggesting Charles and Princess Kate’s cancer troubles potentially being enough to bring the family back together after a fraught few years, Harry did not speak to his brother on the two separate occasions he travelled back to the UK.

In his latest interview with ITV, Prince Harry said that his legal battles with the media were a 'central piece' to his rift with the Royal Family.

He also claimed that the UK is now “too dangerous” for wife Meghan Markle to return to, as security concerns for his family remain.

He said: “It's still dangerous. All it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff to act on what they have read. Whether it's a knife or acid, these are things that are of genuine concern for me.

“It's one of the reasons why I won’t bring my wife back to this country”, he said during the sit-down interview.
