The Duke of Sussex is rapidly approaching his 40th birthday

Prince Harry has penned a heartwarming tribute to his children as he approaches his 40th birthday.

The Duke of Sussex will be celebrating the milestone on Sunday, September 15.

Prince Harry is continuing his work with the Archewell Foundation, the non-profit organisation he co-founded with wife, Meghan Markle.

But above all, his priority remains fatherhood, as he wrote an emotional tribute to Archie, aged five, and Lilibet, aged three.

Speaking to People magazine, Prince Harry said: "The best gift I've ever been given is, without a doubt, my kids. I enjoy watching them grow every single day, and I love being their dad."

The Duke of Sussex said he plans to celebrate his big day with his wife and their children, followed by a gathering with close friends internationally.

It comes as the couple have been hesitant to let Archie and Lilibet out of the spotlight, mostly to maintain their privacy and security.

A source previously told People: "Harry has been reluctant to show his children publicly, not out of a desire to hide them but to protect their privacy and safety from potential threats...He wants them to lead as normal a life as possible without the fear of kidnapping or harm."

Despite their concerns about secrecy, Prince Harry and Meghan have given some glimpses into their children's personalities.

Meghan connected with a kindergartener when she said the student was the "same age" as her son and voiced her pride on the Afro-Descendent Women and Power panel that Lili "found her voice."

It comes as there remains an ongoing tension between the Duke of Sussex and his brother, Prince William. Last month, the pair were together at the funeral of their uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, but were not seen talking to each other.

An eyewitness told The Sun added: "William and Harry were both there but we never saw them speak to each other and they were keeping their distance."

Despite this, Prince Harry is reportedly happy with his life in Montecito, California, where he’s raising his young family with Meghan, 43, and continuing their shared work.

Meanwhile, an insider claims the pair have been invited to spend Christmas with the Spencers. A source told the Express: "Charles [Spencer] has invited Harry, Meghan and the children to Althorp this Christmas.

"It's far too early to say whether they will take him up on it, but the offer is there if they want it."
