Ingrid Seward said 'whatever they do, they're going to be branded eco-hypocrites'

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been criticised by Ingrid Seward, after it was revealed that the pair took a private jet from their Montecito home to Las Vegas for a Katy Perry concert.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are prolific campaigners for climate change, took a private jet from Santa Barbara to Las Vegas, which is owned by Texan oil heir Michael Herd.

Meghan and Harry were joined on the jet by Hollywood A-listers including Cameron Diaz, Zoe Saldana and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The group travelled on a 40 minute flight to watch Katy Perry's final show of her Las Vegas residency.

Speaking to host Mark Dolan, who asked if the couple are once again "eco-hypocrites", Seward said "I think whatever they do, they're going to be branded eco-hypocrites."

She added: "Harry's always said if there's another way, he will try and take it."

Defending the couple's trip, Seward continued: "There's a lot of celebrities who travel in private jets and who also talk about climate change and it is very hypocritical.

"I think that it's probably a bad idea if you want to take private jet travel and why shouldn't you, to go on about climate change, it just doesn't work."

Seward continued: "I think in the Las Vegas trip, they went from Santa Barbara, which is where they live in with Gwyneth Paltrow, her husband, and about, I think there was like 8 other people. So there were 10 in all.

"So in fact, you can't blame them for that 10 people on the Gulfstream in an hour 40 minute journey, is probably about the same as if they'd taken 10 people and gone commercial. So perhaps that's not the greatest comparison.

"But in the past, Harry and Meghan have taken a lot of private jets and they still talked about the crisis of climate change, which is one of the things that Harry has always said that he was very keen to do something about. So it it just doesn't work.

"But at the moment, I don't think much seems to be working for them."

Mark disagreed with Seward, admitting: "I've got to say, 10 people on the Gulfstream doesn't sound like a squash and a squeeze. Ryanair it ain't.

"I personally take the view that you cannot lecture people about the climate and take private jets.

"For me, the two are not compatible. But look, it's all about opinions."
