Gareth Southgate's team conceded a late goal as Spain won their first major title in 12 years.

The result means England have lost back-to-back Euro finals under Southgate.

The Prince of Wales and his eldest son watched on as England battled bravely against a dominant Spanish team.

Despite going a goal down within minutes of the second half, England looked to have found a way back into the game when substitute Cole Palmer equalised with a strike from outside the box.

However, Spain hit back in the 85th minute and Southgate's squad could not find an answer in the remaining amount of time.

The Prince of Wales issued a statement on social media following the bruising defeat.

William wrote: "This time it just wasn’t meant to be. We’re all still so proud of you. Onwards @England. W"
