Prince George is second in the Royal Family's line of succession behind the Prince of Wales

Kate is "heartbroken" over Prince William's decision to send Prince George to Eton, a royal insider has claimed.

The Prince of Wales and his brother Prince Harry both attended the prestigious single-sex boarding school.

Kate was reportedly keen for her son to attend Marlborough College, where she went to school.

The royals toured the £47,000-a-year school last year but it has now been decided that George will attend Eton, according to a source.

The insider told In Touch Weekly that Kate is "heartbroken" and that the couple had "argued" about sending their children to boarding school for years.

The source said: "Kate long disagreed with her husband about sending him away, even though it's tradition."

They added: "Kate thinks sending him to such a stuffy, upper-crust institution goes against all of their efforts to modernise the monarchy. Plus, she'll miss George desperately."

Prince George, 10, now looks set to join Eton when he turns 13.

Sending George to a co-educational school would have allowed both his siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to join their brother.

The three young royals all currently attend Lambrook, a co-educational day prep school.

William and Harry both attended Eton together, however, the Duke of Sussex said the brothers did not interact much at school.

Harry alleged that William told him: "Pretend we don’t know each other" as he joined Eton.

The Duke of Sussex said: "Yeah, and at the time it hurt. I couldn’t make sense of it.

"I was like, 'What do you mean? We’re now at the same school.

"Like, I haven’t seen you for ages, now we get to hang out together.'

"He’s like, 'No, no, no, when we’re at school we don’t know each other.' And I took that personally."
