King Charles, Prince William and the late Prince Philip also learnt to fly

Prince George has discovered a new "passion" as the 11-year-old royal is set to follow in the footsteps of his father Prince William and great grandfather Prince Philip.

The young heir to the throne has begun flying lessons, as it has been confirmed that George took his first lesson just one day before returning to school after the summer holidays.

The Prince was accompanied by his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, as he started his aviation journey at Waltham airfield near Maidenhead.

Detailing the special occasion for the Wales family, GB News Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker said Prince George "loved it" and clearly has developed a "new passion" for flying.

Speaking to host Martin Daubney, Cameron revealed: "The flying lesson happened last Tuesday, the day before he went back to school after the summer holidays.

"George, Prince William and Princess Catherine arrived in a three car convoy to the Waltham airfield, which is about a 20 minute drive from their home, Adelaide Cottage."

Detailing how the Prince and Princess felt about George taking his first flying lesson, Cameron added that the couple appeared "relaxed" as they watched on.

He said: "William and Catherine watched Prince George on as he and the flying instructor took off in an aircraft, and they were in the air for around an hour as Prince George received that first flying lesson.

"An onlooker told The Sun that George 'loved' his first lesson - and it is the right time for him to start."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Highlighting the special connection with Prince George's new passion for flying, Cameron noted that both Prince William and Prince Philip were keen flyers, and the 11-year-old will be following in their royal footsteps.

He told GB News: "Prince George is 11. There isn't actually any particular age limit on learning to fly, but you can't log your flying hours until you turn 14-years-old, and you can't do your test till you're 16, and you can't have a private pilot's license until you were 17.

"But that airfield was actually where Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince George's great grandfather, learned to fly way back in 1952. And of course, there is a long line of males within the Royal Family who have learnt to fly."

Cameron continued: "King Charles too of course learned to fly. Prince William as well, it is well known that he was an RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot and an East Anglian Air Ambulance pilot as well."

In praise of the young prince, Cameron predicts that George and William could "conduct engagements together in the future".

Cameron said: "It's certainly something that Prince George appears to have a passion for. But of course, he's still very young indeed. Perhaps we will see him take off with his father, do some work with the RAF.

"And of course, one day he's going to be King and be head of the armed forces, which includes the Royal Air Force. But before that, Prince George will be starting to prepare for his entrance exams into big schools such as Eton College or Marlborough College.

"One of those big elite private schools, which members of the Royal Family tend to go to. So he's got a lot of education ahead of him, but clearly it appears to be learning to fly as well."
