Their parents have shared with them an important message, which is rooted in sports

William and Kate have shared an important life lesson with their children which they hope will “help them grow”.

The royal pair have told Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis an important message which they can learn from playing sports.

The parents have taught their kids the importance of knowing how to lose.

William and Kate are both sporty people and they have seemed to pass on this hobby to their children.

The Prince and Princess of Wales spoke about the benefits of team sports on The Good, The Bad and the Ugly podcast co-hosted by William’s cousin Zara, Mike Tindall.

The heir to the throne said: “Learning to lose, which I think we've got to concentrate more on nowadays.

"I think people don't know how to lose well. Talking about our children particularly, I want to make sure they understand that.”

"It’s really important from a young age to understand how to lose and why we lose and then to grow from it through that process."

He credited his time playing sports at Eaton for teaching him how to work well in a team and also that winning wasn’t everything.

William said: "The team environment of sport played a big part in my life and my upbringing.

"I gelled and loved being in that quadrant of fear, noise, competitiveness with your mates and your team around you."

The three children’s differing personalities have led them to try out types of sports more suited to them, according to the Prince.

George is a keen football fan and supports his father’s team, Aston Villa.

Charlotte is interested in tennis and has attended Wimbledon, alongside her elder brother and parents. She is also skilled in ballet and archery.

Meanwhile, Louis is “mad about rugby”, according to Kate.

William also opened up on the podcast about his own relationship to sport.

He revealed that the only time he cried at a sport was when his cousin Zara won the silver medal in equestrian at the 2012 London Olympics.

William reminisced on the 2012 event as the “coming together of a nation".

He said: “It was phenomenal and I think Chris Hoy at the velodrome was one of my all-time favourite moments - we were both there shouting and yelling - it was this cauldron of noise and it was just so exciting.”
