During her latest podcast episode, Meghan 'explored the stereotypes and judgements women face in the world of activism'

Meghan Markle has slammed the word “woke” as disgusting during her latest Archetypes podcast.

Meghan was joined by Jameela Jamil and Shohreh Aghdashloo in the latest episode which “explored the stereotypes and judgements women face in the world of activism.”

Speaking during the podcast, Meghan said: “I thought a lot about words that become unnecessarily charged as it pertains to women - like feminism, for example, [which is] often treated as taboo as the f-word.

“Or the word woke”, Meghan continued before beginning to laugh.

She added: I know, I’m saying woke. I fully realise I am spoon-feeding the click bait, but here’s why.

“Woke, by definition, means alert to injustice within society, especially racism. Now, what is loaded or wrong with that?

“When you layer a woman into that seemingly anodyne definition, it becomes, for many, almost disgusting - outrageous they would say.

“But why? What is so scary about a woman having an opinion as strongly as a man does?

“Why do we sometimes cower to that? Turtle, as I say - go back into the safety of our own shell.”

During the episode, Duchess of Sussex also thanked Ms Jamil for “fighting back” on her behalf after the actress criticised the “demonisation” of Meghan in the media.

Ms Jamil – a friend of Meghan’s – said the duchess had faced an “unfathomable amount of shit” amid the “intense unkindness and bigotry and misogyny” of the press.

The duchess, who stepped down as senior working royal in 2020, was exploring the stereotypes and judgments women encounter in the world of activism in the latest episode of her Archetypes podcast.

She told Jamil, “Well, thank you for fighting back”, after the She-Hulk star expressed her concern over Meghan’s experience.
