The Duchess of Sussex postponed her Netflix series earlier this month due to the wildfire crisis in Los Angeles

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been left hurt and appalled after suffering a backlash over their Los Angeles wildfire relief efforts earlier this month.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex supported victims by distributing supplies and making donations.

However, they received criticism from some over using the wildfire crisis as a photo opportunity.

A source close to the Sussexes hit out at this, telling Page Six: "It's offensive to Meghan and Harry that anybody would think this is merely a photo opportunity."

The source emphasised that Meghan, who was born and raised in Los Angeles, considers the city "home" and is heartbroken over the devastation.

A separate source has now revealed the extent of Meghan and Harry's fury at the criticism they received.

The source told Heat: "Meghan and Harry are stunned and appalled at the criticism they’ve endured over all this.

"It confirms what they already knew to a big extent, that they can’t win, no matter what they do.

"Their haters will always be out in force, finding any way possible to tear them down.

"For Meghan, especially, it cuts extremely deep and touches a major nerve. This is her home city burning to the ground, she wants to help."

They added: Harry is telling her how proud he is and that the only way to handle it is to turn the other cheek.

"But, of course, it gets them down and hurts like hell for both of them."

Earlier this month, the Duchess of Sussex and Netflix postponed the release of Meghan's upcoming series until March 4 due to the ongoing wildfire crisis in California.

A source told People: "Delaying the release of With Love, Meghan was likely an easy decision for her.

"I don’t think she could imagine putting out a show centered on joy and hosting when so many people in her home state no longer have homes to host people in.

"I think it’s sad that critics are saying she’s only doing this to avoid the fires overshadowing her show. We’re all human, and we’re dealing with a catastrophe."
