Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are embarking on a four-day tour of the South American nation

Meghan Markle has shared a heart-warming moment with schoolchildren during her four-day quasi-royal visit to Colombia.

The Duchess of Sussex, who is visiting the South American nation alongside her husband Prince Harry, was greeted by pupils waving flags and clutching banners.

Footage released by the Sussexes showed the couple exchanging pleasantries with Colombia’s Vice President Francia Marquez and her husband Rafael Yerney Pinillo.

The couple were then filmed getting their hands dirty by digging in the school’s garden, with the Duke of Sussex later displaying some humourous dad-dancing.

However, Meghan would later steal the show with an adorable exchange involving a young schoolgirl.

The mother-of-two, who was wearing a £2,880 Loro Piana blazer, shared a hug before talking to a schoolboy about his work.

Prince Harry was later snapped shaking hands with another pupil.

The 39-year-old also high-fived another student at La Giralda School in Bogota.

Schoolchildren presented presents to the couple for the Sussexes to take back to their £16million Montecito mansion for five-year-old son Archie and three-year-old daughter Lilibet.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were also able to practice some Spanish.

“You're the same age as my son, Archie,” Meghan said to an excited student.

The Duke of Sussex separately asked students for their name and age while speaking Spanish.

Meghan and Harry appeared more loved-up than ever last night as the Sussexes enjoyed their first series of engagements on their four-day tour of Colombia.

Numerous photos showed the couple holding hands while watching on as folk dancers performed at the Delia Zapata National Centre for the Arts.

The Duchess also chatted with Marquez and pointed to costumes before shaking hands with dancers at the end of the performance.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were given a ring of steel security team during the visit to the school.

A 14-strong entourage was stationed around the school’s perimeter, with soldiers, police and private security also overseeing the event.

A local taxi driver described the school as being in "bandit country" and warned journalists who were in the area covering the visit to "be careful".

The UK's Foreign Office warns against all but essential travel to certain parts of Colombia, with kidnapping rates remaining high.

However, the couple have had some choice words for the UK amid concern about safety in Harry’s birth nation.

The Duke of Sussex came under fire for claiming it is "not possible to keep them [his family] safe" in the UK.
