Meghan Markle will not cave to fresh Archie and Lilibet plea - analysis by Svar Nanan-Sen

The royal cut contact with her father after it emerged he had staged paparazzi pictures and later leaked a letter she sent to him.

As a result of this, Thomas Markle has never met his grandchildren Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Despite his very public plea to meet Archie and Lilibet, Thomas Markle also took the opportunity to fire a dig at his daughter on Monday, saying that Meghan was "not the person I knew as a daughter" and describing her treatment of him as "cruel".

On the other hand, the Duchess of Sussex has a completely different relationship with her mother Doria Ragland.

Meghan has a close bond with Ragland, who has been pictured alongside the her and Prince Harry during a couple of major public appearances this year.

Ragland joined the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at the 50th anniversary of the Ms Foundation for Women's award ceremony, where Meghan received the Women of Vision Award in May.

Meghan's mother was also in the taxi alongside the Sussexes when they were involved in a car chase with paparazzi following the glitzy event in New York.

Earlier this month, Ragland was pictured having a blast at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California during a Beyoncé concert she attended with Meghan and Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex's mother is known to have a close relationship with both of Meghan's children and was pictured celebrating Archie's first birthday in the Netflix series Harry & Meghan.

Thomas Markle's interview this week is not the first time he has spoken out publicly, the seventy-nine-year-old has hit out at the Sussexes several times across the last few years.

Meghan also has no relationship with Thomas' daughter and her half-sister Samantha Markle.

Earlier this year, the Duchess of Sussex won her bid to throw out a defamation case that Samantha had launched against her through US courts.

Thomas, Samantha and Meghan's half-brother Thomas Markle Jr also joined forces for a documentary in April, during which Samantha said the Duchess of Sussex "would still be a waitress if it wasn't for dad".

The documentary for Australia's Channel 7 News also featured Thomas Markle Sr making another plea to his daughter for peace talks.

However, Meghan's relationship with her father has been practically non-existent for years and his continued strategy of calling for reconciliation publicly is unlikely to change that.
